ZAG Heartbeats supports Jump for Joy Photo Project - 114-foot wide mural in Downtown Eastside
Zagsters will be jumping for joy this week and joining our Founder, Steve Curtis, also known as “Rebel with a Cause”. Together, we’ll be sharing our joyful expressions on this massive public art and photo mural taking place on 81 West Pender Street. ZAG Heartbeats donates $3,000 to support Jump for Joy Photo Project by Eyoälha Baker, who is an artist and advocate for living a life of purpose and joy as well as overcoming personal circumstances. She partnered with Atira Women’s Resource Society, The City of Vancouver and BC Housing to bring a truly unique message to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Joy and happiness are equally valued at ZAG’s organizational culture. We believe that our moonshot goal of “raising global happiness by 10%” is in alignment with this stunning 72ft high x 114ft wide mural full of original photographs of people expressing their joy. We also value Giving in Action as well as putting the Team First, and in this case, community – working together to accomplish challenges and offer our personal stories to uplift and inspire each other.
Eyoälha’s work as an artist and photographer is about capturing and sharing the beauty of the human spirit: “Jumping is something only we can do for ourselves. When we jump, and we jump for joy, we use our own power and strength to lift ourselves up. When we take the risk to open ourselves up – we inspire others to do the same!”
Eyoälha shares her experience behind the scenes: “For many, it takes courage just to be in front of a camera and jumping around adds to the challenge. Taking the risk to jump is a beautiful metaphor for all aspects of our lives. When I show them how amazing they look in the photos, their self-perception and what can be possible in their lives changes. When the photos are enlarged and made into this massive mural, that energy is then shared with all who walk by and view the images. And thanks to social media, this energy can then be shared around the world.”
How you can get involved?
VOLUNTEERS: Eyoälha is looking for people to help with the actual creation of the mural, such as glueing posters together and help with wall patching. You will find all her contacts below.
Photo caption: “We’re jumping for joy because the first ZEND Conscious Lounge opens in Yaletown on July 16th, 2015! Zend Lounge offers an extraordinary concept – a place of community serving nourishing food and botanical drinks made with organic and quality plant-based ingredients from around the world. Find your Zend and share it!”
